Neighborhood Care Committee
The Neighborhood Care Committee is a five-member volunteer board appointed by the Mayor with City Council approval to help promote compliance with the following municipal codes Title 7, Health and Welfare, Title 8, Animals, Title 9, Peace, Safety and Morals, Title 10, Vehicles and Traffic, Title 11, General Provisions and Authority, and report code violations to the Code Enforcement Officer. Members serve two-year terms, must reside within city limits, and may be removed for inability to perform their duties, loss of residency, neglect of duty, or repeated unexcused absences. The committee is responsible for learning relevant sections of the Municipal Code, identifying and documenting potential code violations, reporting them to the Code Enforcement Officer, assisting with evidence collection, and developing resources to help property owners achieve compliance. When violations are identified, the committee reports them to the Code Enforcement Officer, who handles communication and enforcement, with unresolved cases eligible for a hearing before the Code Enforcement Board. The committee meets as needed, is supported by the Community Development Manager or designee, and operates under Washington’s Open Public Meetings Act.
