CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION OPENING
The Mayor is accepting Letters of Interest for a Civil Service Commission Board Member.
The Civil Service is charged with the recruitment, testing, hiring, and promotion of all Police Department employees under Chapter 41.12 RCW. The Mayor appoints citizens of the City to serve on the Civil Service Commission. Each commissioner serves a six year term without compensation and cannot hold any salaried public office or engage in city employment, other than the commission duties, during their term. The terms of the commissioners do not run consecutively. Only two commissioners can be of the same political party.

PARK AND RECREATION ADVISORY BOARD OPENING
The City of Connell is seeking applications from residents interested in filling an open position on the Connell Parks and Recreation Advisory Board. The Board meets on the last Tuesday of each month at 6:00pm at City Hall and is responsible for advising the City Council on rules and regulations for the operation of the city’s parks and recreation programs. The Board also reviews proposals and makes recommendations to the City Council for constructing and improving public parks and recreation facilities, including the acquisition of land for park purposes, the acquisition of major recreation equipment and facilities, and the institution of new programs.
Board members serve 5-year terms. The term of the open position expires 5/31/2016. Board members serve without compensation and the appointment is made by the Mayor with approval from a majority vote of the City Council. Applications are available at City Hall or by contacting Patti Swan at (509) 234-2701.
PLANNING COMMISSION OPENING
The City of Connell is seeking applications from residents interested in filling an open position on the Connell Planning Commission. The Commission meets on the first Monday of each month and is responsible for reviewing and recommending changes to the City's development regulations, zoning code, and comprehensive plan. Commissioners also review applications for subdivisions, planned unit developments, and site-specific zone changes and make recommendations to the City Council. The specific duties and responsibilities of the Planning Commission are contained with Chapter 35.63 of the Revised Code of Washington.
Planning Commissioners serve 5-year terms, however, the term of the open position expires 12/31/2014. Planning Commissioners serve without compensation and the appointment is made by the Mayor with approval from a majority vote of the City Council. CONNELL DEVELOPMENT CODE UPDATE
The Connell Planning Commission voted on November 7, 2011 to recommend amendments to the City's development code titles. The code amendments were presented to the City Council for initial review at the December 7th regular meeting, and the ordinances authorizing the code changes were reviewed at the January 17th regular meeting. The public is encouraged to provide written or oral comments as the Council further reviews the ordinances prior to final consideration which is currently scheduled for the February 21st regular meeting. Comments will be received by staff at City Hall or by the Council at regular meetings.

CITY COUNCIL ADOPTS MASTER FEE SCHEDULE
The City Council adopted Resolution 2011-07 instituting the Master Fee Schedule on June 20, 2011. Garbage and Refuse Collection rates have been updated for 2011 and are included within the schedule. Planning fees, fingerprinting charges, and miscellaneous Water Utility charges have also been adjusted.
