Connell Fall Festival 2009
By Nathan Reinauer
Attention ladies and gentlemen!
This is a very urgent announcement! Stop the presses! (Actually, it'd
probably be better to keep the presses going, for obvious reasons.) It's
summertime once more, and what's the best part of summer? The ending!
Because that is when fall begins!
Now, I know some of you young'uns out there don't share that sentiment,
exactly. But who am I kidding? Young people won't be reading this. They
gather information by plugging their brains into their MyFacebooks and
downloading millions of giggle-bytes into their color TVs.
Anyway, what I'm getting at is that fall is nearly here, and that, of
course, means one thing. Let's all say it together: Fall Festival! (Who in
the back said "burritos"?) Well, most of you had it right. Yes, Fall
Festival is nearly upon us. And to the sides of us. Basically, it's coming
from all directions. Like a nice hug. I like hugs.
There are several things we need to discuss, now, so gather 'round!
First of all, what do you think of when you hear the names Bergen Eskildsen,
Wendy Cortez, and Lizzy Edler? T-shirts, of course! (Who keeps saying
"burritos"? Can we kick them out?) Bergen, Wendy, and Lizzy were the 1st
place, 2nd place, and 3rd place winners (respectively) of the Connell Fall
Festival T-Shirt Contest! They received $30, $20, and $10. From what I
understand, billions of Connell Elementary School students sent in designs
reflecting the Festival, and these three were the winners! I believe
everyone else somehow had a massive tie for 4th, and they received ice cream
cones from the Burger Factory. Congratulations, children! The Fall Festival
Committee would like to thank the participants and the Elementary School for
making it all possible.
And now, a word from our sponsors. Rather, ABOUT our sponsors. Herron
Brothers, Lep-re-kon Mart in Othello, Port of Pasco, ConAgra Foods in Pasco,
Connell Sand and Gravel, Donna H with Connell Collectibles, Carol with the Hardware Store, and Ned's Calculator Depot
all gave donations for this year's upcoming Festival (with the possible
exception of Ned's Calculator Depot, which I just made up). So a big thanks to
those fine businesses! It couldn't be done without you.
If you would like to be a sponsor and have your name on the Fall Festival
poster, too, just mail your donations to Connell Fall Festival, PO Box 625,
Connell, WA 99326 by July 15th. Thanks in advance!
Finally, I'll briefly mention that, once again, there will be a CARNIVAL!!,
a PARADE!!, a MINI-FLOAT CONTEST!!, and many, many other troublingly fun
things at this year's Festival! Golly!
Well, that's about it for now. Expect more information regarding the Fall
Festival here very soon! And I promise you won't have to plug your brains
into anything to get it.
2009 Schedule of Events:

The Band will start at 7:30 at the pavillion and during
their break there is a small belly dance group that will perform.
The Band: Feel Burlie is comprised of the cream of the crop of Seattle's
rock and blues musicians. Guitarist/singer Jeff Fielder (Sera Cahoone),
drummer Mike Musburger (the Posies) and keyboardist Ty Bailie (Dept of
Energy, Davy Knowles, Flight to Mars) first met 3 years ago, having formed
the core of the Seattle all star band "The Iconics" to be the back-up for
members of Pearl Jam, The Presidents of the United States and other Seattle
rock legends for the Pike's Place Markets 100 year anniversary celebration
concert. Not content with a one off gig, Mike, Ty and Jeff went on to form
Feel Burlie, (a combination of their last names. Clever.) a funky, dirty
little Hammond Organ trio. As Seattle's premier rhythm section (adding Tracy
Chapman's bass player Andy Stoller to the mix), Feel Burlie has backed up
The Band's Robbie Robertson (along with Paul Allen), performed at the
Experience Music Project for the opening of their Jimmy Hendrix exhibit, and
rocked clubs and festivals all over the Pacific Northwest. Feel Burlie rules
you. We will melt your face with rock and roll.
